I just watched this on DVD - Wow. Loved it. In my screwed up narcissistic way of mine, I love movies that are unpredictable. I had no idea the end was coming then 'click'.

Cinematography was beautiful too. Robert's acting - he's not just a crappy vampire. He can really act. I think I love him now.

I love that Emily is the leading lady - she was my favourite character on Lost, and she's a brilliant actress too. I want to see more of her.

Highly recommend it. I won't spoil the ending, but lets just say, if you get as into movies as I do... you'll be in for some tears.

Unknown... let me know!

I'm sorry! I've been such a crappy blogger! So much has been happening in my life, I've been a bit overwhelmed.

Three weeks ago I moved to a new apartment in the CBD, it's awesome, my flatmates are cool (well, one is... the other I find difficult to talk to), and I'm settling in.

My mum came up for the first weekend after, and stayed with me. That was a busy weekend.

Last week, I got a really bad cold, and was in bed for a week (I've just now started feeling better and going back to uni).

I miss photography! But my new flatmate is into photography too, and we're going to go on a mission one weekend. I'm excited.

Both my mum and dad are coming up this weekend for World of Wearable Arts (WOW) here in Wellington, which is going to be amazing! I'm excited.

Courtney - my favourite of tonight. She really rocked getting all her hair cut off, and the Twiggy look makes her eyes look HUGE. Really hope she goes the way - she seems like one of the genuinely nice girls.

Elza - I do think they are trying to compare the twins, but there seems to be such strength in both of them. I don't think one will be hired without the other. She has such softness here.

Lauren - she is ROCKING this look. Seriously. Love it. She never stood out for me before this episode, but she also seems like one of the more genuine girls. I really hope she's in the final two.

Nellie - so intense!! I love how she's got her lips... almost like she's whispering something. Those eyes are amazing too.

Overall, much better than last weeks episode. Unedited topless photo's went up on the site until Monday, of three of the girls. One was 16.

I really think Dakota and Holly need to be sent home ASAP. Dakota is too immature and annoying, Holly is so self centred and obnoxious I want to stick her face in a mirror and tell her she's not as pretty as she thinks she is.

•The fact that I have absolutely no idea if I even want a boyfriend right now, in the middle of my last year of studies.

Things that have made me happy:

•Went on a date to see Inception - the movie was fantastic and mind boggling.

•Got an email from my lecturer asking if I would be interested in a summer intern scholarship (!!!!!!!).

•Packing to go home today. Woo!

•Friends who understand where I am coming from.

I love love LOVE the new range from Witchery that is coming into stores for SS2010/11. These are among my favourite. Plus, the guy in the shoot is smoking hot. The shop girl told me they flew him in from Norway for the shoot.

I'm dying over those high waisted pants, and those denim shorts. They will be in my wardrobe!

I'm sorry I've been SO SLACK on the blogging front - I've had to find a new place to live because my rent is going up to some astronomical price which I just can't afford. I've actually found a room that is right next to the Architecture campus of my Uni and is right in the centre of town for the same price.

I've been thinking up ideas for a photo wall in my soon-to-be bedroom, and I'm picking up the "Past is like an anchor" print on Wednesday. The gal who makes them is a kiwi on Etsy, and it's a quote from Sex and the City. Love it. Go see Dear Colleen's store - it's adorable!

The previous two prints are from The Big Harumph - I think I'm going to try and make one of my own when I'm at home for the holidays.

Top and Anorak from Ezibuy... first pair of shoes from Urban Outfitters (oh man I wish we had a store here!) and last pair of shoes from Royal T... oooh should I get them? Would I wear them? They're 25% off today. I'm tempted... ok I think I will. Hmm... although what happened to my last pair of shoes from there, they've never been worn they're too high! I'm about 7 foot tall in them!!

The 21st

So last weekend was the weekend of my 21st. My family came up, on Friday night, we had dinner, and Saturday we partied. Was a really fun weekend but exhausting at the same time!

The birthday cake - I'm still trying to get through it, there's a 1/4 left! It's so sickly sweet and the icing is amazing!

El Horno (The Oven in Spanish - yeah I know!) was where we had the party. The Sangria's were in JARS. I love it. When I buy a house, I'm going to have jam jars as glasses. And vases.Very Stolen Girlfriends Club Runway show.

Speeches were lots of fun. Mat is in the background, playing 'Happy Birthday' On the piano. What a sweetie.

Getting ready for the 21 shots of sickly sweetness - they were like syrup. Don't worry, they were shaker shots. Still felt sick afterward though.

All done! By the way, the barman was called 'Ben Harper' - yeah we wanted his signature too.

Finally - I've been obsessed with shirts. Denim, beige, khaki, cream - you name it. Loving tab-sleeve, loose fitting ones. I think I'll be wearing them throughout spring and summer. They're just so handy! I need to figure out more ways to wear them though.

I've started going back to the gym. Feeling sore, but good. Really wish I was swimming instead though. I think I need to buy myself a cute swimming cap and a new one-piece.

Semester starts on Monday! I'm taking 3 papers, Psychology crime & law, Advanced Research Methods (ew, mandatory), and HR: Remuneration and Rewards. Should be an interesting semester.

Current book love - it's just been turned into a movie with Julia Roberts... Liz Gilbert has such a way with words to make you think about things without pushing it in your face, all the while being witty. Her time eating for pleasure in Italy, Praying in India and loving in Indonesia. Really easy read, but very enlightening.

When I have a job with lots of money, I can't wait to decorate my house. It will be a renovation of beauty! And I'll have a linen closet like this where my sheets and towels match and everything is tied up in bundles.Via. Automatism.

One of my favourite Kiwi designers, Cybele, just released their summer lookbook! I looove their dresses, they seem to be able to do anything with silk and prints. A few posts back, you can see my very first piece of theirs I bought from their Unity collection. I'm just in love with these prints and styles... so beautiful.

I've had one exam down, one to go... I really can't be bothered anymore though... but I guess I'll just have to keep pushing through!

So... I just realized I have to do another semester at uni. Next year. Thought I'd actually finish my degree this year, but not so - due to the uni changing the points values on my courses. So. Two more semesters and 6 courses to go.

More and more study. Yikes.

I think my flatmates are annoyed with me. Maybe. I forget things like what day the rubbish goes out. I really need reminders of stuff like that. Mind you, they need to put their dishes away more often.

I want this dress from Cybele for my 21st so much! It's batwing, and has a moth print! And it looks adorable with the booties that I just bought...

I need to be put on a short leash with my spending habits right now... it's shocking. Although the dress has 25% off, and it's designer... and it's my favourite designer. They just KNOW how to make beautiful garments.

By the way, that photo was taken on my phone so you'll have to excuse the shoddy quality.

In other news (however, still spending) I bought this Lomography camera on Trademe the other day! I've been wanting a lomo for a long time, and I've read the reviews on the Holga and they look good. I love film cameras and I really need to spend more time doing my hobby - it's good for me.

I'm going to SATC2 tonight with my friend and having cosmos after. So excited! My neck won't be as sore next time either. I was in the front row of the hugest theatre last time, it was disturbing.

It's the end of the semester! I have an assignment due on Tuesday and then two exams! I'm excited! My HR lecturer gave us the questions already, we know 10 out of 17 are going to be on the exam, which is awesome, and Behaviour Analysis is just going to be scarily hard.

I love these pictures from Heritage 1981's photoshoot - oh the clothes look so beautiful, and it's so warming to my rain-drenched heart.

We've had 11 full days of wetness here in Wellington - Winter has hit. But it's not winter where you can wear nice coats and scarves with your hair down, it's winter where you have to wear rain jackets with hoods and can't have an umbrella cause it will turn inside out in the wind.

I did buy myself a pretty coat yesterday.. from Portmans.

It's actually navy blue. And you can't see in this picture, but it has a really wide collar - if I flick it up it's all 'HI Dracula!". Love it.

They make me want to go on an American roadtrip in an old Shelby Mustang (like in a book I once read). That's one thing I need to add to my bucketlist - an American Roadtrip.

I hope you all are having a fabulous weekend! The capital has finally cleared out the rain and it's a lovely day here in Wellington! I spent this morning finishing an assignment, and then I relaxed on the porch in the sun with my Mindfood magazine. That magazine has everything in it. It's not a trashy magazine, it has fashion, beauty, environmental issues, health, life, exercise, food, everything you can imagine!

I am dying for this dress right now - it's on Trademe for $120 but I don't think I could splurge that much... it's a Motel dress. I could think of multiple ways to wear it - with a slouch shirt and leather jacket, tights, boots, heels, dressed up, dressed down... but... right now I can't buy it.

I did however, put that Witchery shirt on Layby - I should get it next week. It's awesome, it can double up as a dress if I wear tights under it, maybe with a brown belt and brown boots. I'm excited.

How awesome are these designs from Clever Bastards? It's a New Zealand online store specialising in NZ craft, delicatessen (oh the chocolates and HONEY!), homeware, art, clothing, jewellery, recycled objects, and MORE. It's incredible... I could go wild there if I had the money.

I am dying for that vase... isn't it adorable?! I can envision it with a Pink Gerbera... how pretty would that be?

Just went to the fruit and vege market, it was damp, but nice. I always enjoy going. :) I'm going to hate it the first time I have to go when it's pouring rain.

I made scones just now... pretty awesome scones if I can say... because I made them up. I'm sure they've been done before... but I just decided I wanted to make Honey & Blueberry Scones - two of my favourite sweet things.

Recipe (basically out of Edmonds Cookbook):

3 cups flour

6 teaspoons baking powder

1 tablespoon sugar

roughly 1 tablespoon honey

1/4 teaspoon salt

75g butter

1-1/2 cups milk

Sift flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Add sugar. Rub in butter until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add blueberries. Add milk and honey and mix quickly with a knife. Knead a few times, lightly dust an oven tray with flour. Roll scone dough into a rough log shape and cut into roughly 12 pieces. Space evenly on tray and bake at 220ºC for 10 min or until golden brown.

Serve fresh with melted butter and a cup of tea and Bob's your Uncle!

They turned out wonderfully - the sweetness of the honey isn't too overpowering and it compliments the tartness of the blueberries perfectly. Plus you're getting your antioxidants!

I love blueberries - I have them with my porridge in the morning. I buy them at the fruit market for like, half the price of what they are in the supermarket ($6 vs $2.50 a punnet? Yeah). And when they're really cheap I buy two and freeze one for once they go out of season. That will be a sad day.

I feel like such a nanna these days! I can't remember the last weekend I went out. I'm hanging out for this Wednesday when I'll go to Jazz at Havana. It's just such a nice night out, to have a glass of wine and a chat with good live music. And it seems to be the place to hang out for spotting cute guys.

Lomography 'Fisheye Compact' Camera from Superette.

Oh so cool. I've wanted one since ages ago when I saw my friend Bom's photo's on hers. She's all cool and up to date with things like this. I just wanna take wacky photos.

I'm also dying for a new lens for my camera - really wanting a 50mm f/1.6 lens. Would be so much better for taking pictures in Wellington.

I'm trying to get my HR essay done. It's on personal internet use in the workplace. I'm finding it incredibly ironic that I just keep popping onto Facebook when I'm writing about how to avoid cyberslacking. Oh well.

A lunch I made on Saturday - Poached eggs on bread from Arobake with Feta & Spinich spread and Mesculin Salad. I thought it looked pro.

I've been a busy bee this weekend. I worked in the bar at the rugby game on Saturday which was fun. Funny that the first time I go to a rugby game (yes I'm a bad Kiwi) I'm working. But YAY work. I'm also currently helping out my professor doing some research and I've hopefully got a bit of a HR job soon with a large agency! If I do that well I should hopefully get a bit more work from them which is really really good.

Kilt is a New Zealand label - made and owned here in Aotearoa. There's a wee store on Victoria St next to the World store that is full of beautiful treats. It's not overpriced or out of anyone's range (especially a student like myself!) with dresses being around $150. It's the cutest range and I really need to go in there more often.

I went in there with my friend Anna during the massive power outage in Wellington here on Thursday. We both tried on the same dress and came out with them on, and a couple of older ladies were giggling at us a bit I think. It was fun.

Just such a beautiful store. Love it.

I've been thinking on friends lately. The concept of friends. People we share things with that we wouldn't share with someone we had just met - once these people have earned our trust, however, we find a point where it's fine to share our secrets and joys with them.

I think the best thing about friends is that you can do random things with them without being judged. You can go off on a trip in the car, stop off somewhere random and proceed to do silly things just for the hell of silly photo's and some giggles.

My friends keep me grounded. Keep me from falling off the edge sometimes, and keep me sane. I love my friends for that.

This week has been intensely busy - assignments, tests, meeting up with people (I bought my friend Anna some flowers for her 21st present. I also love flowers!) and my brother and his fiance arriving yesterday. I cooked them a chicken pie. Delish.

Well, I know I haven't blogged in QUITE some time - not my fault. I haven't had internet. Over summer I didn't have internet, cell phone or TV access, then I went back up to Wellington and had to find a flat - said flat still haven't got internet so I've been using the uni internet - while having to study. 3rd year Psychology is hard work! I'm actually supposed to be finishing an assignment and studying for a test right now...

Life has been good in general. I do find that I need to get inspired by art again - I need my artistic outlet and it's hard when all I do is get up, go to uni, class, study, come home, make dinner, read and go to bed. It's even hard catching up with friends since everyone is so busy!

The flat I found is brilliant though - I have my own courtyard and a huge double wardrobe (very much needed). Hope all is well - I will post some pictures of my room and how I've decorated it soon. :)

My new perfume: Rose the One by Dolce & Gabana. Such a lovely scent.

Two Sunsets

This is me. On the beach, where I am working. Good, yes? Brilliant is what I would call it. The best beach in the WORLD!

Except that I'm working in an office 50 meters from this stunning beach. The water is lovely at this time of the year too... but the beach is crowded with families now too. I can't wait till February when the sea is warm, the sun is hot and there is hardly anyone there!

Last year was a tough year, but I got through it and am shining on the other end. I am really looking forward to this year! It can only look up! I hope everyone had a lovely new years. I was sitting on that beach up there, watching the full moon rise over the glassy water that was glowing pink and purple from the sky... a boat sailed past, then a flock of birds, and then a little blue penguin cruised up the beach. It was so picturesque. I wish I had my camera with me.

It's nice being away from internet and cell phone too... you can just enjoy the simple things again.

Love and Loss

The worst thing ever happened last night. Gran died 2 minutes after I called my parents asking about her. I miss her so much already.

Two Monday's ago, my aunt also passed away from a long battle with breast cancer. I had seen her two days before she passed, and I swear I never want to see another person die of cancer. It has to be the most horrible thing in the world.

I've been out of reach of internet and cell phone access for the past 3 weeks, but have been coming out for these incidents. The funeral for my gran is on Tuesday. I can't believe she's died... she's supposed to not die.

My tear ducts are either dried up or too proud at the moment. I just wish death wasn't such a horrible thing. I love you Gran, and always will. x

I'm heading to Nelson tomorrow. Gong on the ferry early morning, get in late morning to Picton, then take a bus to Nelson from Picton. Someone will pick me up from the bus stop.

My aunt is pretty bad at the moment. She's hanging by threads. I'm scared that she'll die when I'm there. I know that I have a funeral to go to over summer, it's just a matter of when.

In one week I will be heading off to Totaranui, the beautiful place I will be working all summer. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you are my parents) there will be no internet or cell phone reception. I'm thinking of it as being a theraputic time, away from most technologies (I'm bringing my laptop and movies!) I'll be able to concentrate on other things.

I'm planning on running along the beach each day until I'm fit enough to run on the sand right along the beach (2km) without stopping. This is all in a master plan to get into the Air Force as a IO Psychologist, where they pay for me to get my Masters degree. All they need in return is to work year for year they paid for me at uni, plus one extra year. I'm thinking it would be a good place to find a nice man too. I'd have to do a 12 week training course which is all fitness and stuff, that everyone has to do... I'm not fit. I'm not a sporty kind of person. But it could be interesting.

Mum loves that I am thinking about applying for the air force. My mum, dad and brother all have their Private Pilots licences and my brother is doing aeronautical engineering with Air NZ, and I have always held that I would never do anything to do with Flying (because I am my own self thankyou very much *stomps foot*). But this sounds too good to be true. And it probably is. They only have about 6 Psychologists working for them, so it will be hard to get in to.

Anyway, if I don't blog before I go into the wilderness, I hope everyone has a good November, and a Merry Christmas. Hopefully I will be able to blog, but who knows at the moment?

How beautiful are these photos from _cassia_ on Flickr? She seems to have an awesome colouring approach to her photos that make them look old and pastel. Beautiful. And they make me happy. She also has two etsy shops: Lola's Room and Cassia Beck Vintage Inspired Photography. I know I would love to own one (or three) of these to hang above my bed.

Right now I'm studying hard (hehe) on my psychology courses... I have to finish writing notes for this course before the end of today! I'm also half dreading and half excited about the return to Wellington this Sunday. Really don't want to deal with my flatmates, but really want to see other friends before they head home for summer.

New Hair! - I decided to go a little lighter for summer so she put really subtle foils through it. I really like it and it feels so much more healthy. Note the fake ray-bans I got for $30.
Now I wanna fill you in on a little one of my favourite products. St Ives Swiss Vanilla Body Wash and Moisturiser. It smells SO great and feels like silk. So lovely.

I also bought these heels... they're like T-bars but heels! And actually quite comfortable. I thought it was about time I invested in some good black heels. I also saved on buying a sequened black vest. Kinda obsessed with sequins at the moment.

I am loving covering books at the moment, and I really need to buy some brown paper, some material and get my crafty hands out to cover my books I've got lying around. They really do make an interesting look, and makes them look uniform as well! I have a bunch of bright orange penguin classics that look horrible by themselves, but covered like this would be so cute! Book covers from Book City Jackets.

Also slightly dying inside for these cute necklaces. All from Wildpair. That also means I need to go and buy that jewelery holder that I liked so much...

I'm getting my hair done again on Friday (it's been far too long, being a student sucks when getting your hair done costs $110 here, let alone in the city where it's double that price). So I'm thinking I'll get it a little lighter for summer... about this shade.

And finally, I'm in love with vintage suitcases. I neeeed to go thrift shopping and buy some. Don't they just look awesome as decor? And you can use them as storage! Win-win!

Keep Breathing

When did growing up start to become so hard? Where was the transition from school kid to full blown adult who has to deal with problems yourself? I don't remember it happening.

Being an adult sucks. You have to worry when you're an adult.

Currently I'm worrying about where on earth I'm going to live next year. My flatmates, who I thought were friends, end up saying they don't want to flat with me next year. Oh, but they're staying in the flat that I found for them. No sweat. But if I were to stay, they'd easily move. Their reason? I'm sad. Heh. a) I had surgery this semester, b) my aunt is actually DYING and c) I have no one to talk to. Would have been nice to have someone to talk to, no? Some support maybe? Selfish.

So when I get back from my summer job, I get to sleep on a friends couch and try and find a flat that needs me. I finish work pretty much the week before I start classes. When am I going to be able to do that? To find a bed, a room, a life?

Things would be so much easier if I weren't by myself.

But I guess life happens, right? You have to get through it one way or the other. Hopefully some good will eventually come my way. Maybe my karma will change. I've always been good to people, yet nothing good really comes my way.

Sorry about the lack of updates, we've been scrounging internet, it seems like someone has hacked into our net in the middle of the night and stolen it. Yes. Not cool.

I started reading Eclipse (third book of the Twilight series) Friday afternoon. Finished it at 1am on Saturday. Good thing I don't have the next one yet, I have a test tomorrow on parasites for Biomed, so I've had to study for that.

Speaking of biomed, I really don't know how they expect us to remember the names of those things. It's a first year paper, and I really couldn't give a rats ass about the whole thing. I only took it as a filler. Probably should have just taken marketing in the end. Would have been more interesting. Now I'm just paranoid whenever I get a stomach ache that I've eaten a worm of some kind.

Two weeks of term left though! So excited to be going home over study break for two weeks, it will be so much easier to study at home, without my flatmates distracting me.

Then after my exams (I finish on the 14th, last day of exams, and seeing Rhys Darby, Murry from Flight of the Conchords, on the 13th. Yeah. Bad luck huh?) I'm heading up north to visit my friend Yasmin! Where she will show me some of the sights of the north, and a good time in Tauranga hopefully! Woo! Visit her blog. I then start work at Totaranui on the 1st December, my parents come up before Christmas and leave just before New Years, and I've got work till the end of February. 12 whole weeks!

Scary stuff today with the earthquake and tsunami! I was really worried for my parents but they seem to be fine, mum just text me that they'd got off their lovely cruise around the Aitutaki Lagoon, and had a lovely lunch on One Foot Island (below, me on One Food Island from our trip in '07... oh so pretty!)

I didn't even go to uni today, it was a wet miserable day so I stayed in bed, then met up with my friend who was here for the World of Wearable Arts show. Had coffee in a cozy bookshop cafe, and then had a look around some shops. Not that I have any money at the moment, I need to start saving for summer clothes!

I'm now officially obsessed with Juliette Hogan, NZ designer who was at ANZFW this week... how beautiful are her clothes? Since I can't afford them, however, I shall get my mum to make me a beautiful lace circle skirt like the one above. So pretty and feminine.

My mother and father flew to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands for two weeks. I'm super jealous, obviously. I went there in 2007 with my grandma and mum, and it was such a lovely trip. We have local friends there now, and everyone is just so friendly. You meet someone on the bus and they give you a basket full of pawpaw the next day.

These beautiful pieces are from two different stores, one is an e-bay store with completely awesome jewelery, the other is a NZ store advertised in Black magazine, which I of course looked up. Aren't they BEAUTIFUL?

I'm avidly following the fashion week coverage, I just want to BE there. Hopefully will be there next year.

Today I found a cute designer second hand store! There are beautiful pieces in there from all around the world, which is so exciting! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled in there. So many cute shoes! I tried on a couple of rings, one of which only fitted on my little finger, but she said it was bought in New York.

Isn't it funny how I'm still undecided as to what I want to do with my life? I guess I'll just finish my Psychology/Management/HR degree and then see what happens! Only a year and a half to go... really no big deal. Yikes. I guess once I travel I'll eventually figure myself out.

Better get back to studying, I have had two tests this week, one more to go!

I finally got my shoes today! They're beautiful! I'm trying to wear them in... maybe an hour a day to get used to them (the height... I feel like a giant!) but they're so pretty I don't even care.

How was everyone's weekend? I got in a grump because I missed the courier man for said shoes, then didn't study and read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Amazing book, but depressing. But then I think, well... I guess I was studying for my Abnormal Psychology test (tomorrow)! I also decided to brave town with my friend Jaime, which wasn't a good idea - it was TOO packed thanks to the All Blacks vs. Wallabies game (which we won!).

I'm thinking about buying tickets to see World of Wearable Arts next week... there are still some available, and even the obstructed view is good. But I'll have to go alone, as no one wants to go. I guess it's the next best thing to fashion week.

In other news, if there are any Wellingtonian's reading this, who would like a photographer to photograph them, I would love to! I need to get some experience up, and it would be great to have some cool people who actually want to pose for me. :)

OH MY GOSH. You know those shoes I posted and raved on about?! Well... I just bought them! At a fraction of the price! They were $200 and no way was I buying shoes for that price... but then I got an email from Royal T informing me of their massive clearout sale! The shoes got slashed by over half price! Down to only $70! Well, obviously I couldn't let that go. Oh they are so pretty! And comfy! And I can't wait to wear them around.

I also just saw a Tweet from ANZFW telling me about all these half price designer clothes on sale this weekend... in Auckland. Damn.

In other fashion-related news, I'm going to Toi Whaakari tonight to see my flatmate and another friend modelling for the designers there. There is said to be multiple corsets and frills. I'm excited, and all for the fraction of the cost of Wearable Arts.

I've been VERY SLOWLY scrolling through the huge amount of images from NY Fashion Week... These are a couple of my favourite pics - the first two are Donna Karen (the woman can do no harm, most perfect ready-to-wear ever!). I love the draping and colours - such a soft pallet. The last three are by Tracy Reece. I just love the bright colours and deep V necks in this collection! And so many prints! Images from style.com.

No doubt I will be taking inspiration from the Spring/Summer '10 ready-to-wear collections. I've already got my eye on multiple peach and beige items, and have already invested in a gorgeous halter-neck yellow dress for summer. I like that the hemlines are getting longer in the dresses - was getting sick of having to decline pretty dresses because I am just not comfortable having my bum out to the world. Although, apparently at Paris Fashion Week, according to Garance Dore the 'no pant' look is in. Aka, very short shorts which show a bit of bum cleavage, with long cardi's or blazers over the top. Could never do it. By the way, if you haven't been to Garance' site before, it's gorgeous!

I went to the gym today to get a personal programme set up. This was mostly to get me knowing what each of the weight machines do (I had no idea how to use them, so this was good). There are a couple of scary looking contraptions, but it's all in the name of a bikini body for summer! I'm going to get long lean legs, buns and thighs, hot, tight abs (thanks to the amazingness that is swiss ball), and slim arms.

I am in love with this skirt made by a NZ designer, albie on Etsy.com. It's a full circle skirt without seams, and she even makes to order! I'm so excited to buy it, but will have to wait till my tax return is back to buy it. I'm also scared of wearing it in Wellington due to the wind, but I'm sure a pair of tights or bike shorts (oh how I want lace bike shorts) will fix that. I'm thinking it will look gorgeous with a simple white tank and my black blazer or denim jacket. It's just so adorable! And colours for spring are pinks, apricots and creams.

I'm also loving animal prints for spring... but I just can't bring myself to buy them for myself. I have a feeling they just won't work. Maybe small accessories of animal print will work though.

I am also loving studding detail, especially on such a simple skirt as this (Scrapbook skirt, $40 from Wildpair). Mixing up grungy pieces with feminine is oh so hot.

STILL dying for those Max jeans, which will be out in a couple of weeks, according to the sales lady. A lot of people want them too, also according to said sales lady.

I had a lovely day today! After drinking last night (absinthe and sing star Abba!) and waking up to having pancakes and french toast for breakfast and lunch, the flat went to Central Park in Brooklyn. Wellington, New Zealand, that is. We all got into our bikinis and sunbathed while children screamed and played on the playground and... an awesome flying fox! It was so much fun!

Jaime is supposed to be coming over tonight to have facials and do our nails and watch movies... I'm thinking Wall-E.

The Way I Am

I went shopping today! With some friends who aren't as close as some, but they are lovely and make me laugh (which is what I need in friends). I might be flatting with two of them next year. Anna is my gym buddy (with whom I must go to the gym with tomorrow), Helena is so Emo, but she's cute, and Andy I don't know as well, but she's lovely.

So I bought some cut-off denim shorts from Jay Jays (I know! I haven't been in there since ages ago, but the clothes have improved, I even liked 2 or 3 of the summer dresses, which I may go back for), some sateen skinny pants from Glassons (the cheaper version of the ones I posted a few posts back, and fit perfectly) to wear with my denim jacket, and a cute autumn dress which is grey with red flowers, which I'll wear tights and flats with.

I'm so so so excited for summer! I'll be living on the beach, can go swimming everyday, walks along the beach at night, and reading lots of books! There is no internet or cell phone access, so it's going to be such a serene time for me to find myself, and find some peace.

Nearly the end of the first week back at uni! I'll need to start studying for tests this weekend. I have two tests on the 22nd, one for Abnormal psych and one for Biomed, and one on the 25th, Brain and Behaviour. Talk about all in one go. But only 5 weeks until study week! Then exams, and SUMMER.

p.s. I tried on those beige pumps, but for some reason one foot is all scrunched up in them, so I decided against buying them. They're still pretty though. The other heels are sold out. Boo.

Oooh, I so want these acid wash jeans from the new Max collection! View the lookbook! Aren't they just perfect for summer though? Light wash, but something different. I'm not a huge fan of the distressed look, so these are perfect. Plus, Max jeans fit me oh-so-well. My black pair are worn out (need to make them into shorts, and dye them back to black... bleaching them made them turn red!), and my other black pair are awesome. All for $99 NZD.

The Only Fault

Does anyone else get sick of being tall? I know a lot of short people hate being short, but what about us tall girls? I'm 5'9" and hate being as tall as I am, however, if I were shorter I'd look a bit rounder. I have to buy larger clothes, because I'm a normal weight, for my height (though I'd love to lose about 10kg). But it's wanting to wear HEELS that makes being tall such a challenge.

I tried on the first pair of heels I posted in this entry today, they were super comfortable, but SO high. Next to the sales girl (who looked about 5') I was a giant towering over her at about 6'5" (I'm normally 5'9" or so). They were beautiful heels, I just wish I were shorter, or at least, I had a man who is a basketball player (which, I guess isn't really going to happen too soon) to make me feel comfortable wearing heels that high.

Friends are also a problem when it comes to wearing heels. They complain about me being too tall, and that I should just wear flats (which are bad for my flat feet anyway... thanks dad, for blessing me with all the crappy things while leaving my brother with 20/20 vision, perfect arches, and straight teeth).

So that is my rant about heels. And height. Feel free to comment your opinion.

Mountain & the Sea

I have just returned from my trip home. I'm now back in the big smoke - Wellington, capital of New Zealand! The first two are two favourite things from my trip home in Spring - cherry blossom and making daisy chains. Oh how I will miss it. I won't be back in my home town until next year (depending on when my exams are).

Luckily my parents wanted to stop into a mall on the way to the airport, so I stepped into a clothing store, and found this cute blouse! With $20 off! It has been at the back of my mind to buy a sheer blouse like this, and it was meant to be. From Jeanswest.

Back into the swing of things tomorrow, having to look after myself again. I have to do some washing and drying, and visit my friend Jaime as it was her birthday on Friday. I've missed her! She's my rock up here.

My mum and were obsessing over Etsy last night. It was fun. She said she might get me something for Christmas. Fun!

I'm going back to Wellington tomorrow night! I'm excited but glad I had so long here in the country. It's relaxing and serene. Looking outside now, it's sunny and calm, birds are tweeting and the daffodils are coming out. I love spring here, everything feels so new. Unlike in the city.

For the rest of the semester, I need to start working smarter like first semester where I did all my readings while taking notes, and studied well. I need to get good marks this semester.

I also need to do some summer shopping! I'll need about 3 bikinis for me to get through this summer working at the beach! It will be good for me to get away from internet access and cell phone reception. I can get back in touch with nature - kayaking, hiking, sunbathing, watersports. So. Excited.

Worn Me Down

I'm dying for these shoes. Wish I could pull off heels better/walking in heels better, but I think I will have to train myself. Both are made by Siren, and are the cheaper leather versions of designers like Christian Louboutin, without the signature red sole. Great for someone like me who loves the looks, but hates the pricetag (aka, being a student with a huge student loan already). Hopefully after my knee is fully healed, I will be able to wear these kinds of gorgeous heels.

Speaking of my knee, I took my butterfly stitches off today. One of the incisions is almost completely healed (and super itchy), but the other one is pretty much still open. It needs the air to scab over (TMI?).

I'm in love with Garance Dore's blog. She's so French, and her sketches are adorable. It makes me want to learn French again. I might try and teach myself.

I'm also in love with Ingrid Michaelson and Rachael Yagamata at the moment, their sounds are so relaxing and easy to listen to, lovely to just sit in the sun and read a book with.

I just bought this jumpsuit from Sella for $40. Isn't it cute?

I bought some new earbuds for my ipod as the ipod ones seem to like to break and become uncomfortable. It's great having dad around, he'll go on about spending money, but when I'm all fine about buying something, he'll go all soft and say he'll pay for half. This also happened with the teeshirt from Just Jeans (previous post, I got it in white). He's really just a big softy.

I did bake him the lemon curd cake however. So I guess he likes being baked for, and I've been cooking them dinner.

There is a film on at the local cinema (it's very old, and rustic - couches down the front and uncomfortable chairs in the back) that is made by people in my town, with whom I've acted with. I want to go.

Incredible Love

Things I'm desperately wanting right now. First three tops from Wild Pair (Minkpink and Scrapbook), black slouch top from Just Jeans, Slouch tie front cardi by Max, skinny sateen pants by Max.

I went hunting for vintage rings and the local vintage store today, but had no luck. There was, however, a cute dragon broach, but it was in gold and gold doesn't work for me. I also caught up with one of my best friends from home, Tori, who is currently in med school. She's gorgeous, talented and smart, and I love her to death.

I'm trying to make myself more eloquent and cultured. Living in Wellington, but coming from a small country town where having a beer at the pub in stubbies and a rugby shirt is the norm, I feel highly uncultured. Especially when some friends in Wellington have performed at the Globe, traveled the world, and just seem to be so poised. So I'm reading Jane Austen and waiting to become enlightened. Currently reading Sense and Sensibility. It's rather good and is making me want to speak in a posh English accent.

Lemony Twist

So, confession. This isn't actually taken on a polaroid camera. it's taken on my DSLR but converted polaroid style by a program called Poladroid. It's such a wonderful little program. It even spits out the pics like an actual polaroid and plasters them on your desktop.

So I'm home, in the town I grew up in, for a couple of weeks. It's the spring uni holidays, and it really is feeling like spring. It's sunny and warm, and the cats are rolling around in the sun. Ah, home.

My father has requested that I bake him a cake - my world famous in my flat lemon curd cake, to be precise. The recipe I found on this wonderful website, but have modified it slightly... ie, I add the juice of the lemon that has been de-zested, and only put in 100g of lemon curd (from New Zealand's trusted Barkers brand, which is made in my home town, where I am now). This lemon curd is stirred into the mixture, as I found that when it was spooned over top, it just sunk to the bottom of the cake leaving a gooey mess. I don't like mess.

170g butter (grated into the sugar makes it easier to cream)
1½ cups sugar
4 large eggs
zest of one lemon
juice of one lemon
1½ cups flour
1½ tsp baking powder
¾ tsp salt
100g lemon curd

Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then add each egg one at a time, beating between additions. Add the zest and juice of the lemon. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into the mixture and fold the mixture together. Add the lemon curd and mix.

Pop into a cake tin (I use those floppy silicone ones, they're just so easy to wash, and you only need to spray with cooking spray and they pop out so easily!), and into the oven at 180ºC for about 1 hour or until a knife comes away clean.

I'm 20 years old.
My birthday is on the 12th of July.
I enjoy photography, and take my photos on my Sony A200 DSLR.
However, I am studying psychology and management (HR).
I either plan to become a neuropsychologist or an industrial organisational psychologist.
I live in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.
I would love to move overseas, particularly to New York.
My life is bland. I would like exciting things to happen to me, but they don't.
